You wanted me to know that you'd heard my new song
You told me that it was clever, I said that you were wrong
I thought that we had something special, maybe I was right
But I didn’t really care just then, because we got along
How'd we get to know each other?
What did we each say?
I don't know but somehow you and I just started talking everyday
But I remember where it started
With that silly line
So just go ahead sing one of yours, and I'll sing one of mine
Remember when we met that friendly winter night
You were showing us your songs and I often caught your eye
I seemed to know right then and there that you'd be in my life
But I didn't really know what that might mean or what it might be like
How'd we get to know each other?
What did we each say?
I don't know but somehow you and I just started talking everyday
But I remember where it started
With that silly line
So just go ahead sing one of yours, and I'll sing one of mine
It sure is special meeting you, that's clear as day to me
Sure is hard knowing you without knowing what you need
What'd we choose to care about, what questions did we ask
And how in the hell are we to know when good is good, and when the past is past
How'd we get to know each other?
What did we each say?
I don't know but somehow you and I just started talking everyday
But I remember where it started
With that silly line
So just go ahead sing one of yours, and I'll sing one of mine

Jackie
I knew you best
In the spring
When we had everything we ever wanted
Jackie
There was a song
We used to sing
‘til we knew the words so well we felt them
Jackie
There were times
Back in May
When the days would go easily
Jackie
Do you see
the apple blooms
Do you remember when the scent
Would drift into our room in the spring
Jackie
We both know
The sense of ease will come and go
Like the tide, we go out to sea
So take my hand once more
We can sing just like before
As the tide crawls back up the shore

Did I Ever

Yesterday you called me
To ask me if I ever really loved you
And though it was so balmy
I felt a chill come over me inside
You were at a low point,
The kind that makes you question anything (everything)
And I knew there’d be no point
where I could reassure your worried mind
But I said yes, absolutely
I’m sorry that’s something you’ve had to question
Yes, absolutely
Though you’re not someone I casually mention
After you called me
The world spun, my vision blurred, my heart was pounding
I tried to reflect calmly
Staring at the ceiling for a while
But I said yes, absolutely
I’m sorry that’s something you’ve had to question
Yes, absolutely
Though you’re not someone I casually mention
I said yes, absolutely
I’m sorry that’s something you’ve had to question

Bright Sunny Morning

Bright sunny morning
Ooo
It seems all the world has aligned
Why can’t all mornings be so gentle and kind
Bright sunny morning
Ooo
I move through the hours with ease
Thinking how perfect some mornings can be
As day stretches on
And I’m drenched by the sun
The truth I assembled starts coming undone
And in desperation I reach for someone
Hoping I might find some way to settle and unwind
All sunny mornings
Must come to an end
With a bump in the road or a spike in the wind
That leaves me uncertain and blue
And that’s when I find myself reaching out for you
Reaching out for you

Corner of My Mind
04:36

Paint me a picture; I'll write you a poem
Because I know you get restless when you are alone
Though the snow covers leaves, in the spring they remain
And you paint them with yellows and reds
Sometimes I can’t tell if they’re leaves or they’re flames
I’m so far away that it all looks the same
But when the chilly burnt breeze arrives in the fall
I can still smell the leaves in your hair
And I was talking about you tonight
Brought back memories of time spent together
And it only takes one night alone to find
You resting
In the corner of my mind
Of my mind
When the evening got cold we would hurry indoors
And fill up the kettle from the tiny thrift store
Our hands they were cold but our faces grew warm
And we’d sit there talking for hours
I was talking about you tonight
Brought back memories of time spent together
And it only takes one night alone to find
You resting
In the corner of my mind
Of my mind

Moments

He spends his days walking back and forth along these narrow streets
Passing by old houses, lazy storefronts, and the sleepy solemn sea
The years move by quickly and he's feeling it again
Thinking of where he might’ve gone, who he might have been
Caught in restless wandering as moments keep on tumbling away
Always disappearing, like the glisten of the light upon the waves
The ships are rocking back and forth above the choppy sea
It all looks bare and empty like the branches on some winter maple tree
The tide’s rolling in
Come morning, it will go back out again
Go back out again
It’s another grey December day, he feels the bite of early winter’s snow
In his mind a stroll along the coast, many years ago
With the salty breeze, a gentle tune drifts into his head
Thinks of the dusty fiddle case and pulls it out from beneath his bed
And the tide’s rolling in
Come morning, it will go back out again
Go back out again
There are moments of joy and concentration
Where he becomes a god singing to the world
He becomes a god singing to the world
